Ava Marie Slaughter

Ava Marie Slaughter, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, departed this life on December 25th, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer, displaying unwavering strength and grace. Born on April 30, 1963, in St. Paul, MN, Ava came into the world by her loving mother, Dorothy Jean Butler. She spent her early years in Minneapolis, MN, before the family relocated to Houston, TX. Later, she graduated from Houston Technical Institute in 1981. Welcoming Christ into her life at an early age, Ava's active involvement in the church reflected her profound spiritual foundation. On February 14th, Ava united in marriage with her devoted husband, Stephen Michael Slaughter, Sr., in Houston, TX. Their union of 37 years was enriched with two children, Stephen Michael Slaughter, Jr., and Blake Asa Slaughter. Ava's love and passion for football, particularly the Kansas State Football team where her son Blake played, was as important to her as her devotion to family. She was driven by the desire to provide her family and her beloved pets, Chance, Maya, and Ruthie, with the perfect home. Ava found joy in singing, hosting family events, and immersing herself in the timeless melodies of Stevie Wonder and classic hits, all while dedicating herself to aiding others and savoring life's moments. Ava was a committed member of Disciples Christian Fellowship and enjoyed their afternoon prayer meetings. Ava's life was characterized by a profound commitment to excellence and a passion for helping others. She achieved a multitude of career goals. From becoming a certified paralegal to earning a degree in technology. She then contributed her skills to Bayco Gibson law firm as the Information Technology Director. After spearheading a merger, she contributed to the esteemed Jones Day law firm as their Information Technology Manager and Software Developer. Following the successful upbringing of her two sons, Ava realized her aspiration of becoming a Real Estate Broker at REALM Real Estate Professionals. She effortlessly maintained high standards in both her career and her commitment to assisting others in real estate matters, maintaining a 5-star rating with HAR. Her professional journey also extended to the Aerospace Industry at Barrios as a NASA contractor. Ava's meticulous attention to detail, sound advice, and genuine concern for the well-being of her family, friends, coworkers, and clients left an undeniable mark on those whose lives she touched. Her legacy is one of determination, resilience, selflessness, kindness, and a deep, abiding love for those who knew and loved her. Ava was preceded in death by her Father, Glenn McCarthy Robinson, maternal Grandparents, General Henry Butler Sr., and Minnie Lee Butler, Uncle(s) Lawrence Milton Butler and General Henry Butler Jr., Nephew, Dominic Glenn Robinson-Brewer, and Niece, Brèa Elaine Jarvis. She leaves to cherish her loving memories of her Husband, Stephen Michael Slaughter Sr.; Two Children and their families, Stephen Michael Slaughter Jr. and Wife (Mary); Blake Asa Slaughter and Wife (Amelia); Her memory is also cherished by her Mother, Dorothy Robinson, her Sisters, Adrienne Jarvis and Husband, (Irving); Glennette Robinson; Tamitri Wolfe and Husband (Arnold); Brother, Glenn Robinson Jr., and Wife (Towanna). Ava leaves behind a host of Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, In-Laws, Extended Family, and Friends who will forever hold her dear in their hearts. Until we meet again.
